Harriman State Park, Rockland County, New York

It had been two weeks since our last hike, but we wanted to keep in shape, especially as we have an upcoming hiking vacation. Therefore, on this Labor Day we drove to the southwestern tip of Harriman for a hike on the yellow-blazed Suffern-Bear Mountain trail. I had never hiked in this section of the park before.

Harriman State Park, Rockland County, New York

Jon, Nachi and I drove to the Lake Sebago boat dock in Harriman. We were supposed to be joined there by another man, which would give us two cars with which we could do a shuttle hike beginning at the park’s southwest corner and leading back to Lake Sebago.

Harriman State Park, Rockland County, New York

My hiking partners today were Suri, Greg and Malky. We went to the southwest corner of Harriman, a part of the park I had never visited before. From Route 17, we turned east onto Seven Lakes Drive, and parked at the Reeves Meadow Visitor Center.

High Tor State Park, Rockland County, New York

Nachi suggested a short hike in High Tor State Park, and ten of us participated. It was not the prettiest of days, with gray skies and temperatures in the 40s, and obviously no green vegetation.

Bear Mountain State Park, Orange & Rockland Counties, NY

The Jewish Outdoor Club had a day of hiking and barbecue to celebrate Lag B’Omer. This was my first visit to Bear Mountain, though I have photos of my grandmother visiting here decades ago. There is a large lawn near the parking lot, where we gathered and played Frisbee.

Harriman State Park, Orange & Rockland Counties, New York

I joined the Appalachian Mountain Club for this hike, though apparently Mother’s Day isn’t the most popular day for hiking, as there were only four of us on the hike. The hike began where the Ramapo-Dunderberg trail crosses route 106.
